Characterisation Of The Homogenising Action Of Glass Flow By A "Refining Number."

A "refining number" for removal of gas from the melt was developed from a model of temp and velocity distribution in a glass tanks with a throat. The homogenising effect in any vol element can be assessed from its temp and flow behaviour and can be then used to produce a parameter characteristic of refining.
