The Changing Face Of British Glass Production

What is now the British Glass Manufacturers' Confederation can trace its roots back to 1876, when a group of bottle making companies in Yorkshire got together to form the Yorkshire Glass Bottle Manufacturers' Association. This Association was proposed originally as a means to help overcoming rising costs, falling prices and falling profits. In 1891, another trade group, Yorkshire Flint Glass Manufacturers' Association, was set up for makers of smaller bottles such as pharmaceuticals containers who used pot furnaces. This article looks at the history of the Confederation and explains how the organisation was formed.
