Changing Colour On Command

Pilkington has launched an energy-saving window for buildings that can change colour on command. The electrochromic glass changes colour from clear to blue as it is adjusted to control the amount of heat or light entering a room. Called Pilkington EControl, it ensures that people can enjoy the most comfortable conditions inside a building whatever the temperature of light intensity outside. The darkening or lightening of the glass is gradual and without sound, so that the change is barely perceptible from the inside. The view through the window remains clear. It works by passing a low electrical voltage across microscopically thin coatings on the glass surface, activating a tungsten-bearing electrochromic layer which changes colour. For more information fax Pilkington on 01744 692660.
