Certification Of The Mass Fractions Of Trace Elements In Glass To Be Used For Multi-Element Determination By Xrf: A Joint Collaborative Work In Cooperation Between Bam & Icg

In this paper, the certification campaign of XRF reference glass is described, to be used for both production control and research purposes. 22 trace elements were incorporated into a soda-lime base glass, chosen in concentration ranges intended to minimize any possible cross interferences. The paper describes melting operations, homogeneity testing and samples preparation, laboratory inter comparison and uncertainties calculation. The work is supported and organised in collaboration between the ICG and the German-based BAM, who acted as supervisor and certification body. Glass melting and sampling were carried out in SSV laboratories and 24 laboratories of internationally-acknowledged reputation participated in the inter comparison for certification.
