Ceramic Engines Make Hot Contenders For Cleaner Cars

In the quest for clean, fuel-efficient cars, a team of Japanese engineers has built an engine which is made mainly of ceramics and runs on methanol. The team, whose backers include Isuzu, Japan's largest manufacturers of buses and lorries, says the engine is a forerunner to power units that will be lighter, cleaner and more efficient than conventional designs built from metal.
