Clean Air legislation for motorcycles and scooters is spreading rapidly in South East Asian countries due to health hazards associated with large amounts of HC and CO emissions, notably from two-stroke engines fueled by gas/oil mixture. In view of high exhaust temperature due to exothermic oxidation of HC and CO emissions, cellular ceramic catalyst supports are ideal for this application. They offer design flexibility in terms of cell geometry, contour and substrate size, which in turn, help optimize surface area for high conversion efficiency, low thermal mass for quick light-off, hydraulic diameter for low back pressure, and high strength for long term durability.
