Guardian Canada said 13 April that it would be closing its Tillsonburg site in July. The press release said the closure was because of: "The continued reduction in the facility's business operations & the ongoing slowdown in the economy." Guardian fabricates glass & offers custom tempering services at the facility. Work carried out at the plant will be taken on by other Guardian sites. Tillsonburg's mayor said: "We are disappointed to hear this. Guardian have been an important member of our manufacturing community since 1977 & their departure will have an impact on our economy as we work to recover from the global recession that has had a significant impact on our region. We are concerned about employees & the impact this will have on them & we will be in contact with the Ministry of Training, as well as local employment service providers to help with the transition."
