Caithness Glass - Visitor Centre Approved

A new visitor centre at Caithness Glass in Perth has been given the go-ahead, just months after the site was saved from closure. Perth & Kinross Council's development control committee recently approved plans for the company's £5M visitor & retail centre. 12 jobs were cut when Caithness Glass went into receivership, but the factory was then bought by Dartington Crystal, saving 45 jobs & the Caithness brand Oct/06. The firm said the new visitor centre was a vital part of its plans for the site, a popular spot with tourists. Councillors supported initial proposals for the centre at a committee meeting in 2006, but called for more "iconic" designs to be drawn up before giving the project the go-ahead. Planning chief Iain Sleith said the improved plans, which included more landscaping & improved car parking, met with his approval & councillors agreed to back the project on 17/01/07.
