The REACH Annex XVII entry for cadmium has been amended by Regulation 494/2011 and a subsequent correction. Under the revised entry, mixtures and articles produced from plastic material must not be placed on the market if the concentration of cadmium equals or exceeds 0.01% by weight of the plastic material. However, for certain rigid PVC applications, mixtures and articles containing recovered PVC may contain up to 0.1% cadmium by weight of the plastic material. In these cases the supplier must indicate that the product contains recovered PVC or mark it with a pictogram as specified in Regulation 494/2011. Additionally, the amended Annex XVII entry restricts the use and placing on the market of cadmium in brazing fillers to 0.01% or less by weight, as well as limiting the maximum concentration of cadmium in metal parts of jewellery items and accessories such as cuff links, brooches and wrist watches to 0.01%.
