Scottish Minister for Environment and Rural Development, Ross Finnie, has launched a new tool to boost market confidence in the status of construction aggregates processed from inert waste. The Quality Protocol for Scotland, which builds on recent work by WRAP, the Quarry Products Association and the Highways Agency for England and Wales, addressed the European Court of Justice rulings on the definition of waste. The protocol was published by WRAP, and provides a uniform control process which allows producers to show that their product is no longer a waste, and will provide purchasers with a quality-managed product that will boost confidence in performance.
