Brunner Mond'S New £10M Plant

Brunner Mond have announced a £10m investment boost for its Cheshire base as it seeks to capitalise on tougher environmental laws governing gas emissions. The company manufactures soda ash used in the production of glass, detergents & water treatments, as well as sodium bicarbonate for the food, pharmaceuticals & other industries. Planning permission has been secured from Vale Royal council for a factory at Lostock, Northwich. They expect the new plant to be operational during the first half of 2009. It will have capacity to produce 50,000/tpa sodium bicarbonate. The expansion will enable the business to meet growing demand for the compound as a means of neutralising gas emissions produced during industrial processes by firms in sectors ranging from bio-mass power plants, thermal treatment operations for clinical waste, glass manufacture & smelting.
