British Glass Voices "Deep Concern" Over Mrf Trend

British Glass has called for legislation changes & an industry-wide debate concerning the trend towards materials recycling facilities sorting glass. The industry trade confederation said local authorities are being forced into collecting household glass within commingled collection schemes because of their weight-based targets set by the government. Recycling glass through commingled collections & MRFs is "tantamount to squandering a precious natural resource" according to British Glass. It is concerned that the "knee-jerk reaction" to council targets will mean some environmental benefits of recycling glass are lost. British Glass has been lobbying for many years to protect the separate collection of glass & collection of separate glass colours, which its container manufacturer members see as producing the highest quality recycled glass cullet.
