Schott-Swiesel has been successful in achieving a fundamental modification to the basic composition of its glass, thus enabling it to supply its customers with a glass not only for special occasions but also for everyday use which is produced by absolutely harmless manufacturing methods. A composition has been developed for the new crystal glass that completely avoids the use of toxic heavy metal additives. For this product the conventional lead oxide and barium oxide components have been replaced, without any adverse effect on quality, by oxides such as titanium dioxide, zirconium dioxide, zinc oxide and potassium oxide.
