[Brazil] Ambev Inaugurates Glass Packaging Plant In Rio

Brazilian beverages giant Companhia de Bebidas das Américas, or AmBev, inaugurated its first glass packaging plant on 16 April 2008. The plant, located in Campo Grande (Rio de Janeiro state) and which required investments of BRL 160 million, has generated 300 direct and 1,500 indirect jobs. The unit will meet around 50% of AmBev's demand for glass, according to the company's corporate relations director Milton Seligman. The plant will initially produce long-neck bottles and will have a maximum daily capacity of one million units. The Rio government granted AmBev tax incentives corresponding to 5% of the total investment.
