Bmw Applies New Glass Technology

BMW Group has pioneered an innovative heat reflecting, laminated glass technology into the new BMW 5 and 7 series. This is for the first time that such a facility, which helps reduce internal air temperature in a stationary car by 5 deg C and lowers surface temperature of seats and storage areas by up to 10 deg C, has been installed on a car. The new climate-comfort glass is used on the rear windscreen and features more than 500 ultra-thin plastic layers embedded into the glass pane. These layers reduce build-up of heat in the interior of the car by reflecting the sun's infrared rays. Each layer is only 0.00001mm thick, which is fifty thousand times thinner than the human hair. The new technology uses glass and plastic exclusively, where previously metal thin film systems were used.
