Big Changes At Edinburgh

Edinburgh Crystal has bought the name and some of the assets of Caithness Glass, which went into receivership earlier this year. Caithness factory at Wick was closed by the receivers, but a subsidiary of Edinburgh Crystal has brought its factory at Perth in Scotland and its Kings Lynn site. Paperweights will still be made at Perth. Edinburgh Crystal also plans to close its factory and visitor centre at Penicuik, and move the visitor centre to Straiton. The move follows an agreement from the local authority to pay £2.5M to buy Edinburgh Crystal's existing factory and visitor centre, while Edinburgh Crystal's warehouse and offices will remain on the same site. The authority, Midlothian Council, will use the land to build housing and new business premises. Edinburgh has yet to choose a new site for the factory. (whole item)
