The Big Batch: Perlite Vs Feldspar

In this article, raw perlite, is viewed as an alternative to feldspar in the production of glass. In Turkey, the idea to use raw perlite as an alternative raw material was first thought of in 1998. Shortly afterwards, the first perlite-based applications were used in amber coloured glass bottle furnaces in 2000. Favourable results from a study were carried out and reported here. The paper concludes that, because of the cheaper unit price and positive contributions of raw perlite compared to feldspar, it has been determined that raw perlite can be used in amber and green coloured container glass and traditional soda-lime-silica glass (float), instead of feldspar.
