Beetroot Faces Over Street Plot

The producers of Coronation St are being slammed as "irresponsible and foolish" by the food industry for a story showing store manager Curly Watts being framed for tampering with products in his supermarket. The scam was perpetrated by Curly's ex-lover Anne Malone, who is area sales manager for his Freshco supermarket chain, and who was recently shown using tweezers to put glass inside a jar of beetroot. A spokesman for Heinz said: "Along with many in the food industry I have to say it does sound irresponsible. Due to various scares we all need to be working towards consumer confidence, not scaring them and certainly not giving people the ideas to copy this type of behaviour."
