Batch Preheating: Economic And Environmental Aspects

A plant producing white flint glass came on stream at the Neuenhagen works of Nienburger Glas in August 1995. This article compares the plant with an earlier installation at Nienburg which has been in operation for over eight years. The latest plant has been found to save at least 20% in energy costs as a result of the reduction in its consumption of natural gas. Removal of oxides of sulphur, hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid from the waste gas is significant, as also, is the reduction in the consumption of sodium sulphate.
