When Rockware Glass decided early in 1992 to increase the melting capacity of its three Knottingley furnaces by more than 30%, it decided the existing batch plant was too small to cope. An increase in capacity and refurbishment was not appropriate, because of the age and low performance of the existing facilities, so a brand new batch plant was built. This article illustrates how Zippe carried out this task.
