[Batch Charging] Introducing Louvre-Type Chargers

Batch chargers used for feeding batch into electric tank furnaces must carry out more functions than those operating on furnaces fired with fossil fuels. Both types must transport batch with cullet into the melting compartment of the furnace & provide a reliable operation that guarantees minimum fluctuations in glass bath level; signals arriving from the level gauge are used to control the batch charger. However, the batch charger used with electric tank furnaces must keep the glass bath permanently covered with batch. If not, energy losses arise & the furnace superstructure & crown become overheated. Glasstech has developed a simple louvre-type batch charger with just one batch hopper as well as more intricate designs when the batch & cullet are charged from two separate hoppers. A wide range of melting ends can be covered with a batch layer by louvre-type batch chargers.
