With European-wide initiatives, the possibility of recycling glass from television tubes on a large scale looks achievable in the foreseeable future. In 1994 Schott set up the Picture Tube Recycling Working Group, which was set up at the instigation of the Zentralverband Elektrotechnik-und Elektronikindustrie e.V (Central Association of the Electrical Engineering & Electronics Industry, or ZVEI for short). This group comprises representatives of the European picture tube glass manufacturers Philips, Samsung, Schott (Germany), Thomson (France) & NEG (UK). The working group's experts have established a uniform composition for television funnel glass. All the members are preapred to covert their funnel glass to the agreed standard composition within an appropriate time scale.
