Aventurine Optical Effects Produced At The Surface Of Basalt And Mica-Amblygonite Glass-Ceramics

The iridescent, Schiller or aventurine optical effects obtained in the surface layers of novel glass ceramics processed from minerals and rocks have been investigated and shown to be related to oxidation reactions at the surface causing precipitation of iron oxides or spinodal decomposition.
