Aventurine Glass - The Recipes

The authors of this paper present the recipe for Aventurine, a very unique type of glass, whose beauty lies in its metallic reflections, caused by copper crystals dispersed throughout the mass. The purpose of this initial study is to divulge how Aventurine glass was made through recipes found in over 20 books (out of the 100 that are currently known). Said recipe books were used by Muranese masters during a period of time ranging from the XVII to the XIX centuries. The next issue of SSV magazine will include a second study in which we will develop a technical interpretation of the process, attempting to determine the reasons why this type of glass is so difficult to produce.
