Automatic Stress Measurement

Systematic quality control is vital in flat glass production. In this paper the author describes a product that can help, the Strainoptic PES-100, an automated, PC-based system that offers a cost-effective solution to glass fabricators responding to the growing demands for tighter control of residual stress in all types of flat glass. It can also be used to quantify and, thereby, reduce the frequency of destructive testing, reducing waste, saving unnecessary labour costs, and enabling better utilisation of resources and personnel.
