A glass recycling plant at Chullora, near Sydney, Australia celebrated a significant milestone in early September 2008 when it processed its 5,000th tonne of glass fragments. WSN Environmental Solutions and its joint-venture partner, Australian Glass Technologies, process broken glass from council collections and turn the material into market-ready glass granules. The plant opened in January 2008 with a specific purpose: process the tonnes of glass fragments that were previously too small to recycle, being less than 25mm in size. WSN Environmental Solutions CEO Ken Kanofski said the plant was a bonus for both the environmental and manufacturing sectors. "Not only is this process keeping glass out of landfill, it offers a new solution for manufacturers of bricks, tiles and pavers who can use the glass as a high-quality additive in their products," Mr Kanofski said.
