[Australia] Council Reflects On Recycling Efforts

Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke says the city is now the second largest glass recycler in Australia. The city council supplies a Coomera-based company with discarded glass, recycling between 130-300 tonnes/week, for export. Councillor Clarke says it is a major saving on landfill & a Queensland first. "We now are heading the rest of the country, but for Geelong (Victoria) with total recycling of glass," he said. "We were virtually burying 150/tpw. We could only recycle 18% of the total that people put in their bins. "Now we are able to recycle 98% - virtually recycle the whole caboose."
