The developer of the Mantra Pandanas building in the Australian city of Darwin, has announced that it will replace every glass panel on the building's balconies because of a manufacturing fault. It is believed 3 glass panels have shattered since they were installed in 2008, including one at the beginning of July that sent glass showering onto a car parked 10 floors below. Developer of the building, Gwelo, says investigations have shown that the glass panels, which are manufactured interstate & overseas, may have been weakened due to a fault in the manufacturing process. Bernie O'Connell of Gwelo said that protection will be installed by 12 July to protect pedestrians & cars. He says the replacement of all glass panels should start soon & the cost will by covered by the manufacturer. The new panels will go through the process of "heat soaking" for extra protection.
