Assessing Shelf Like Capabilities Of Multi-Layer Pet

Dohler, a leading supplier of fruit ingredients to the beverage industry, has carried out tests into the shelf life effectiveness of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles for juice drinks. The quality (colour, decrease of ascorbic acid, carbonisation level, taste) of an isotonic citrus sports drink packaged in three AmGuard multilayer bottles, a standard monolayer PET bottle or a glass bottle was assessed over 6 months. Carbon dioxide losses were higher in the multilayer PET bottles than in glass, but were lower than those from the single layer PET bottle. There were no significant differences between multilayer and glass bottles for colour loss, ascorbic acid content and taste.
