Asian Beverage Markets: Part 2 - Putting On The Fizz

Just 10 years ago, the Indian beer industry as as small as 26M/cases (12 bottles each/barely an evening out in some countries!). Modern retail was unheard of in the country, and Coca Cola and Pepsi never had it so good with very little competition. However, things have changed. Current beer demand is now pegged at 240M cases per annum, and growing, and modern retail is on a vibrant surge with Indian government announcing foreign direct investment in retail, paving the way for companies such as Wall-Mart, Tesco and Carrefour. In the second part of this pan-Asian beverage market review, the author looks into how the markets of the sub-continent are continuing to evolve.
