Ardagh Glass will invest £335m in manufacturing facilities across Europe over the next few years, which involve juggling capacity in the UK. The move will mean the closure of some facilities in the UK, Germany & Poland. However, an Ardagh spokesman says there will be no reduction in capacity & no enforced redundancies in the UK. Ardagh became Europe's third largest glass manufacturer a year ago with acquisition of Rexam's container glass division. The company has 47 furnaces in seven European countries. The company says it will reopen previously closed capacity in Germany & the UK, & build a new furnace in the Netherlands. A number of furnaces are nearing the end of their lives,& rebuilding them would "represent significant investment," Ardagh say.
