Architectural Aspect Of Structural Glass Roof Design

The objective of this work is to study some solutions of the design and construction of structural glass roofs. Attractive glazed roofs could be achieved by enlarging the range and size of the glass panels, or by reducing the number of their supporting points. On the basis of analyses of the geometry of different shapes and positions of roof surfaces, structural glass roof functions and supporting systems, the general typology of form types is given. Also, the assembling typology is created. The diversity of combinations of structural glass components is the potential for different options of roof design and building appearance. In addition, the interdependence between roof form and load carrying is considered for some cases. The subjects of numerical analyses are the glass panel models of 40mm thick laminated glass. Checking of the stress of the laminated glass plates, on the 8-m span, is done for different roof geometries.
