Philippe Durand, Chairman of the French-based glass tableware manufacturing multinational Arc International, died on September 7th following a surgical operation. Mr Durand was born in 1950 and had joined Arc in 1973 after studying engineering at HEI in Lille, France. He began his career at Arc as a product manager, developing technical and production skills and responsibilities along the way. He took part in setting up Arc's plant at Millville in New Jersey, USA and he spearheaded the company's move into international production in China and the UAE, as well distribution activities. Mr Du rand was aware of serious risks involved in undergoing the operation he needed and as a result had put into place measures to ensure the continuity of shareholders' commitment to Arc and of the group's management. He leaves a widow and three children.
