Applying Oxide-Metallic Coatings To Glass Surfaces

A patented method and equipment have been developed for applying metallic-oxide coatings onto freshly formed surfaces of glass articles. A study has been made of the aerodynamics of the gas-reagent flow in the application chamber of the coater, which uses dried air supplied at pressure to a vaporising unit filled with tin or titanium tetrachloride. The equipment with chamber modified on the basis of the data obtained is now in use for hot-end coatings on 52 lines in the Soviet Union.
