Application For Extension To Meet Air Quality Standards

Defra launched on 27 January 2009, a consultation on the UK application to the European Commission, for an extension to meet air quality targets for Particulate Matter (PM10). Although levels of PM10 have been falling across the UK, breaches in eight areas have been reported and extra time is needed to enable measures to reduce PM10 levels to within EU limits by 2011. Comments are required by 10 March 2009.
