Annealing And Distortion Minimizing Of Sheet Glass In Drawing Tower

It has been shown that difficulties in cutting sheet glass may be due to the two dimensional stress distribution along the cutting line on the glass surface. In order to reduce the plane stress, hot air was introduced into the drawing tower in order to achieve uniform horizontal temperature distribution in the glass sheet in the annealing range. This technique which can be applied to existing drawing equipment and is both ecomonical and easily controllable, has contributed to the stabilisation of the drawing operation at high production rates. The buckling of the sheet was eliminated and the optical quality of the glass surface improved.
