Annealing Of 517.645 Borosilicate Opal Glass: I-Refractive Index

The changes in the refractive index of the borosilicate crown BSC-2 (and = 1.517, v = 64.5) with temp and time were determined by the quenching method. From these findings and the equations concerning temperature distribution and strain release in glass by Adams and Williamson were derived practical annealing schedules to predetermined index homogeneity fro various thicknesses of glass. The data for this particular glass are compared graphically with similar and different types of glasses studied by other investigations.
