Anglo-Dutch Drinking Glasses: Comparisons Of Early 17Th Century Material Culture

Glass has been used as a medium for tablewares in Northwest Europe since the Roman period and most aspects of its manufacture and use have been extensively researched. Despite this there has been, until recently, a surprising lack of scholarship into vessels from the first half of the 17th century. General surveys in both England and the Netherlands have covered broad aspects of glass from this period, but have failed to classify comprehensively the diversity of forms. This paper examines and compares selected group deposits of glass from well-excavated urban sites in England and the Netherlands.
