Sales of glass packaging for olive oil increased in 2004 by 19.5%, according to data from ANFEVI, the Spanish Association of Container Glass Manufacturers. the upward trend has been maintained for several years and coincides with consumer preferences. According to a study by the Perfiles Institute, 80% of Spanish consumers prefer to buy their olive oil in glass, as it is considered the best container for the interests of the product. Provisional data for the first 9 months of 2005 shows a 2% growth in glass containers for cooking oil, in line with forecasts for world consumption. Olive oil is the most popular cooking oil in Spain; in 2004 it was the choice of 61% of consumers with a per capita consumption of 12.9 litres.
