A method is described for the determination of low impurity levels such as Na, K, Mg, Ca, Al, Fe, Cr and Ti in glassmaking sands. The recommended procedures give a satisfactory reproducibility for the given elements. Although the TC concluded that the sand used did not seem to be homogeneous engough to serve as a real "reference material", it nevertheless presents analysts with a good opportunity to check their own practice in the determination of these elements.
