Most quality-decisive processes in glass melting tanks are determined by only a few basic physical parameters, which are melting tank temperature levels, melt mixing behaviour and uniformity, melt chemistry and residence time. The most optimum conditions for each process step (time, temperature, sequence of process events, flow characteristics, chemical composition) are discussed in this article to support the designing of future glass furnaces.
