Chemical methods for the determination of the transition metal impurities in optical glasses and their raw materials are presented. Atomic absorption spectrometry and neutron activation analyses have been developed for determination of trace amounts of the impurities. APDC (ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate) -MIBK (methyl isobuthyl ketone) extraction has been applied to the simultaneous determination of Cr,Mn,Fe,Co,Ni, and Cu in the optical glass materials.
