Alkali Reduction In Container Glass Compositions

A batch alkali reduction programme at Consumers Glass begun in February 1981 and continued over a thirty-month period is reported. It was shown that the alkali content for flint glass could be reduced to 13.0% and for coloured glasses to 13.75% without adverse effects on the container forming operation.
