The Council has formally adopted on 15 November, 2004 the new Directive relating to arsenic, cadmium, mercury, nickel and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in ambient air. Required by the IPPC Directive (96/61/EC), Member States must ensure that the following levels are not exceeded on 31/12/2012: 6ng/m3 for arsenic; 5ng/m3 for cadmium; 20/ngm3 for nickel; and 1ng/3 for BaP.
