Air Control Replacement

Maintenance contractor ROK enlisted specialist glaziers Exeter Glass Centre to undertake the tricky replacement of a broken heavy duty glass pane within the Air Traffic Control Tower at Exeter Airport. This was a task further complicated by the requirement for the work to be undertaken whilst still maintaining the non-stop cover required during flying hours. Due the size & its 115kg weight, the glass could not pass through the building, so it was lifted with a crane fitted with a specialist suction lifter & safely glazed into place. Mark Herbert leading the team from Exeter Glass Centre was tasked by ROK to provide replacement safety glass, with enough tint to protect the air traffic controllers from the sun's glare. This was successfully installed by the glazing team without compromising the safety of airport users & with no disruption to air movements & flight schedules.
