Agc Europe Announce Furnace Shutdowns

AGC Glass Europe has announced plans to shut down its two oldest glass furnaces in Europe. It confirmed that one of the four furnaces at its Moustier, Belgium plant would be closed, as well as one at its Salerno, Italy plant. The company reported that the Moustier furnace had reached the end of its working life and would be closed down March 2012. The Salerno plant operates one production furnace, a laminated glass processing line, and a distribution centre. Under the effects of the financial crisis and local overcapacity, it was proposed to shut down the furnace at the end of Feb/2012, affecting some 125 jobs. The plant is said to be continuing its processing and distribution activities.
