Adding O2 To E-Glass

The use of oxygen in E-glass forehearths continues to move forward in the glass industry. Eclipse has now installed over 7500 of its Primefire series of oxy-forehearth burners in over 165 zones on forehearths in China, the USA and Bahrain, processing over 1250/tpd glass. The primary motive for the use of oxygen-fired forehearths for E-glass is the most significant savings in fuel. Most of these systems have been installed on new forehearths or on rebuilt forehearths as replacement burners. This article describes how E-glass forehearths benefit from the installation of oxy-fuel burners.
