This paper covers the activities of the EU and the possible influences on the enamel market. On the basis of the EU Treaties, thousands of decisions are taken each year, which have a major impact on the running of the Member States and on the lives of EU citizens. The paper also deals with a selection of activities of the EU and their possible influence on the enamel industry, in particular primary legislation regarding enamels is looked at including: the Drinking Water Directive; Construction Products Directive; and regulations covering Food Contact Materials. Pb and Cd release comparisons for EU countries are tabled.
