Actions To Reduce Emissions And Prospects For The Future Of The Italian Glass Industry

The glass industry, like most manufacturing sectors, is requested to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases, in particular carbon dioxide, associated with the production cycle, in compliance with EU Directive 2003/87.EC. The objective could be reached by reducing fossil fuel consumption necessary for the production process and/or by limiting the quantity of carbon-based raw materials used in the batch composition. A review of the possible actions and related achievable results is given, together with a forecast for the future of the Italian glass industry.
