Act Platinum Coatings - Their Role In Stabilising Glass Production Processes

This paper describes the use of thin, thermally sprayed platinum coatings to protect standard glass forming and containment ceramics. The paper discusses the properties of ACT Pt coatings and concludes that their durability cannot be explained by a simple extrapolation from the behaviour of thicker, free-standing Pt claddings. The reconfiguration of Pt as an ACT coating, therefore, provides a cost effective method of protecting glass contact ceramics, increasing component lifetimes and stabilising glass production processes.
